For the second time in this semester we could get in the ground. The condition
of the field has improved and that the participants could move more freely than
the previous day. As there is no class the students were mentally free to
participate in the program. They have participated with full energy and
enthusiasm. Apart from the regular exercise they took a small round in the filed for the first
time. Some pictures of the field and the stadium is given below:
We have assembled in the Jnan Ghosh
Stadium in the Wednesday morning. The morning was free from rain, and for
the first time in this semester we could get into the ground. Instead of
huddling under the shed, all the students could stretch in the open field. The
field was a bit wet and that restricted the free movement. Nevertheless the
students participated with full energy and enthusiasm. Some pictures of the field and the stadium is

Yesterday (01-08-2015) was the occasion when new batch of students joined our team and we extended them a hearty welcome. The discipline was evident from first day itself as all arrived in time i.e. 5:30 AM after a rain lashed night, with cyclone Komen (Link1, Link2) making its presence felt in IIT Kharagpur campus too. Even then we waited for rain to stop so that we could get started with exercise.
But, rain didn't stop. And we had to be contented with the good habits of getting up early, arriving in the field in time, being disciplined in our patient waiting with 900 of us present in the Jnan Ghosh stadium shed. Of course, we enjoyed the companionship of our friends and these are one of those occasions when we go out and work together in large number.
The second year members of our team were released early and a brief orientation of freshers started. Program Coordinator, NSO Health and Fitness first introduced Program Officers (faculty members from different Dept.s/Schools who are in-charge of individual units) and Physical Training instructors. Then he talked about the importance given to curricular Extra Academic Activity, even if it has zero credit. He went to explain the benefit of the program, activities around it (regular activities and specual activities) and the way gradation / evaluation is done. The program ended at 6:30 AM.
The above video contains 16 minutes of the orientation program. (The video is full HD 1020p that can be displayed in large screen. However, for normal desktop viewing or lower net speed, 360p or Auto can be selected from settings.) The pictures in this post is taken from this session.
