Session: 30th July

For students registered in this program:    Leave Application   Feedback/Suggestion

Today first year students joined us in the field. In this academic session we are implementing roll no. wise formation in field for all the units. This was followed in Unit 9 and 10 in last session and found to be more efficient. Thus, we had to invest sometime in the beginning for that. Some of the newcomers among us had confusion regarding which unit they belong to. We formed a separate group for them today. The follow links give PDF files of Unit wise distribution.

Link for Unit 1 to 5 distribution              Link for Unit 6 to 10 distribution

Students can see their relative position / order, that is who are just in front of him / her and who are at the back so that units can get into formation quickly and make the most of the morning in terms of fitness training. Some of us needed to understand that we cannot just join a training schedule in between as there are warm-up, muscle relaxation and other phases where one exercise leads to other. Also, if we get our compass corrected right in the beginning, we shall make less error in reaching our destination.

Session: 26th July

For students registered in this program:    Leave Application   Feedback/Suggestion

First year students were allocated yesterday to this program and they joined us today in the field. Unit division for them is to take place soon. They participated in the program in a different way today as can be seen from the video but it was fun. At the end, they were explained importance of EAA, the scope and opportunities of the program, leave rules, how grade is arrived at, consequence of poor grade etc. They were asked to follow this blog and our earlier post (Link). All queries from new-comers were addressed that included how they can participate in various sports and games of Gymkhana. It is a great beginning and the day coincides with 60th Convocation of IIT Kharagpur.

Session: 23rd July

For students registered in this program:    Leave Application   Feedback/Suggestion

Field activity time has been adjusted to summer timing. Through mail each member of the team (faculty and students alike) were asked to report by 5:35 AM in Jnan Ghosh stadium, IIT Kharagpur. Long shadows in the pictures taken from the session will give a feel how advancement in time helped us in enjoying the exercise. Since it is basic fitness training, it is never very strenuous and all of us can enjoy it. Today we first present three videos taken from this session and then a few pictures.

Session: 19th July

For students registered in this program:    Leave Application   Feedback/Suggestion

Field activity of the new session started this morning with 2nd year students in the Jnan Ghosh stadium of our IIT Kharagpur campus. First year students will join us next week after their allocation to individual EAA programs are complete. We were worried but nature played sport as it did not rain. Two instructors from Gymkhana Mr. Pranab and Mr. Gyanswarup helped the students in exercise. Previous Program Coordinator introduced the new Program Coordinator to us who had been Program Officer of Unit 10. We heard that new Program Officer would join soon in his place. New Program Coordinators in his brief speech told us, the 2nd year students that the freshers will learn from instructors as well as their seniors and we have an added responsibility there. After exercises, we had little jogging to end the session. Few of us who were not in P.T. friendly dress promised our faculty that we would be careful from next session. Few pictures and one short video of today's session appear below.

New Session 2014 - 2015

For students registered in this program:    Leave Application   Feedback/Suggestion

Welcome to new academic session 2014 - 2015!

Welcome all freshers in our beautiful IIT Kharagpur campus! Extra Academic Activity (EAA) is a four semester long program where participation is mandatory for each UG student in first two years. About thirty faculty members will be directly associated with us in our weekly activities. It is not only fun, it also helps in developing bonding outside classroom environment, develop ability to work in a team and leadership qualities and last but not the least - inculcate healthy practices for healthy living.

One of the mandate of this NSO Health and Fitness program is to develop awareness among ourselves and in the community on healthy living by conducting workshops, awareness rallies, skits / nukkaads (street-play), poster making, short video making, newsletter publishing etc. Other than regular field activities, each member of the team is expected to participate in at least one of the special activities and make an impact.

Compared to other EAA activities of IIT Kharagpur, we are relatively young. We are only 1.5 years old! However, the earlier posts of this blog will show that enthusiastic members of this 900 strong team has already made a mark. In terms of our strength, we are only next to NSS (Link) that has 1000 members. These days, employers give lot of importance to Exta Academic engagements and skills acquired to weigh one's employability. Inter-personal and social skills are the mark of one's personality. Thus, the EAA experience is rewarding beyond EAA tenure of four semesters as it helps in making better individuals of us, by making us physically and mentally fit. Let us make the most of this opportunity.

We expect that the new session 2014 - 2015 will be even more fun and we shall reach more milestones in this session. We commence our field activity with enrolled 2nd year students on 19-7-2014 (SAT), 6:00 AM at Jnan Ghosh Stadium. The first year students are to join us next week (26-7-2014) after their formal allocation to different EAA programs.

The new academic session starts with another new. Prof. Sudipta Mukhopadhyaya (Link) is the new Program Coordinator of this program from this session. A new faculty member will join us soon as new Program Officer.
